I think I'm going to have to take a field trip to Christmas Tree Shop.
I made a special visit to Whole Foods today to get the ingredients for my dinner tonight - Pepper Jack Chicken with Succotash. As I was about to enter the store, I was stopped in my tracks at the huge display of beautiful yellow sunflowers. I said to myself, "You need those in your life," so I picked up a bunch and headed in to buy my food.
What I didn't realize until I got home was that I no longer have any vases, minus a tiny one given as a free gift for registering at Crate & Barrel. I had a few when I was living at my old apartment, but they were kind of junky so I got rid of them before the move. So now I had fresh flowers, and no vase to put them in. It's a good thing I am creative!
Since I am a seltzer fiend, I always have empty bottles lying around. I peeled the label off and cut off the top. But that's boring. It looked like an empty soda bottle. I needed to find a way to jazz it up. I figured it would be best for me to wrap something around the bottle, but then the question was what. Luckily, we just bought some new kitchen had towels, one of them being sage green with little leaves - totally matches our decor! I was able to wrap the bottle using paperclips. I put some stones in the bottom of the bottle to give it some weight, since sunflowers are top heavy, filled the bottle with water and trimmed the stalks to fit!
This may not be a "Mary Lou caliber" floral arrangement, but it worked out great in a pinch.
Here's a pic of my fabulous, make-shift centerpiece:
